COLUMBUS BASE MEETING MINUTES 2 June 2018
Call to Order:
1300 – Commander, Tim Barker called the meeting to order.
COB John Bethea led in the salute to the flag.
Chaplain Walt Fleak gave the invocation.
Tolling of the lost boats was conducted by Chaplain Sharon Lloyd and COB John Bethea.
Welcome to all by Base Commander.
There were 19 members and guests present.
May 2018 meeting minutes are posted on the web site. There were no changes.
Correspondence – None.
Jim Koogler reported on the status of the Treasury accounts through the end of May 2018.
Nothing to report at this time.
Jim Tolson out of hospital and recovered from pneumonia.
Getting stronger and the treatments seem to be working.
Don Crinkey has stopped the immunotherapy and has started hospice.
Todd Vankirk is recovering from successful surgery. He has lost at least 67 lbs as of May 14th.
Todd is feeling much better and say’s to say “Hi” and thanks everyone for their thoughts and prayers.
Clutch received greetings from Bruce Sanderson.
Clutch received greetings from Woody Cook.
Clutch visited Bob and Sue Wells and picked up some submarine related books that Bob donated to the base
Joe Testa plans to be in town around 4th of July holiday and hopes to participate in the UA parade or attend the July base meeting
and “catch up with everyone”.
Bill Foreman was in attendance and filled out the forms to join the base.
July 4 – Upper Arlington parade in the morning and Plain City Parade in the afternoon.
Bill and Galin will pass off the sub after the Upper Arlington parade.
July 7 - 1200 Base Meeting, American Legion Leasure-Blackston 239, 700 Morning Street, Worthington, OH 43085
Inventory Status – Frank took the envelopes and stamps that have been inventoried to Eagle Crown on High Street
to determine the value but was told the envelopes aren’t’ in very good shape and are not worth much.
The idea of having Bob’s granddaughter to try and sell them online was mentioned.
There are three hundred twenty-three stamps. Also, there are patches for 52 boats.
Most of these can be sold.
For the good of the Order:
Kapss4Kids outing is Thursday June 7th. Meet in the main lobby at NWCH at 1330 with visit to floor 1400-1500.
Sharon and Frank will be assisting Bob McDaniel and Bill Anderson.
There maybe two Eagle Scout presentations coming up. One at Cambridge that Walt may be presenting and the other at St. Henry’s that Bob may do.
2018 USSVI Convention cruise – Oct 21-28, 2018 www.ussvicruise.com/ As of 23FEB18,
372 have signed up including Todd VanKirk. Galin Brady could be attending.
USSVI National proposal to combine national constitution and bylaws into one single document.
Proposal was distributed to all hands.
Vote will be part of national elections in Sept/Oct.
National Board of Directors is recommending YES vote to pass.
The majority of members at the meeting approved a picnic this year.
The picnic will be the August 4th meeting at our regular meeting post,
American Legion Leasure-Blackston 239, 700 Morning Street, Worthington, OH 43085.
Sharon will provide Clutch with a list of food dishes that people can sign up to bring.
Clutch will put the list in an electronic format to send out.
Rick Freeman will provide chicken and Russ Shaeffer will provide the brats.
Rick’s brother may also be able to come and man the grill again this year.
Jim Favret is new Legion contact, replacing Mark Goyer.
