Call to Order:
1300 – Commander, Tim Barker called the meeting to order.
o Frank Lloyd led in the salute to the flag.
o Chaplain Sharon Lloyd gave the invocation.
o Tolling of the lost boats was conducted by Chaplain Sharon Lloyd and Frank Lloyd. Welcome to all by Base Commander.
o There were 20 members and guests present.
o January 2016 meeting minutes are posted on the web site. There were no changes.
o Correspondence – none.
o Jim Koogler reported on the status of the Treasury through the end of January 2016. He also discussed the Columbus Base EOY report that is sent to USSVI.
o The Sailing List is available as a PDF file on the web site. Shipmates will need an account to download or they can request a copy from an officer.
o Jan Creekmore’s father passed away.
o Bob McDaniel’s daughter is in the hospital.
o Russ Shaeffeis scheduled to go into the hospital on February 10 for a medical procedure.
o New members and guests in attendance included: none
o New member - Alan Forry EN2(SS), qualified on USS Bang SS-385) in 1966. Alan lives in Galion OH.
o Galin Brady shared that he has been talking to two prospective members. One of the boat sailor was Mike Hogan who was on the Narwhal.
o March 5 (Saturday) Base Meeting – Worthington American Legion Post 239.
o April 2, (Saturday) – Submarine Birthday / Tolling Ceremony dinner VFW Hilliard (our normal dinner location.)
o Tolling Ceremony being planned at NOSC Rickenbacker in April 2016. (Since the base meeting, this ceremony has been put on hold.)
o Trip to visit the COD is still being planned.
For the good of the Order:
o ODOT has been notified of Highway Cleanup cancellation by Bill Anderson.
o Jim Killen and Mike Milenovic were given Dave Creekmore’s cell number so they can coordinate a Submarine Museum visit directly with Dave.
o Continued discussion regarding moving the submarine museum to some other location. Members were asked if they had donated any
items to the museum that they would like returned. No response from members attending this meeting. Members are encouraged
to contact the officers if they have any items they want returned. Tim Barker is taking the lead on this relocation.
Galin is going to check on donations to St. Mary’s Submarine Museum near Kings Bay, GA.
o The submarine float needs to be painted. Rick Freeman agreed to take the lead on this project and check on additional bids to
repaint it. Although a lot of the boats are currently being painted all black, it was recommended to continue the two color
o Sharon Lloyd donated a scarlet & gray afghan that will be raffled off for the Central Crossing High School NJROTC trip to
Pearl Harbor. Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. They will be sold at the NJROTC spaghetti dinner on Sunday2/21, and then
will be on sale until our Submarine Birthday Dinner, when the drawing will take place.
Jim Koogler will send more information via email.
o Commander Barker asked the qualification question of the day.
o 50/50 drawing. Pictures on the web site show the winners.
