COLUMBUS BASE MEETING MINUTES 9 July 2016
Call to Order:
1300 – Commander, Tim Barker called the meeting to order.
Frank Lloyd led in the salute to the flag.
Chaplain Walt Fleak gave the invocation.
Tolling of the lost boats was conducted by Chaplain Walt Fleak and Frank Lloyd.
Welcome to all by Base Commander. There were 18 members and guests present.
June 2016 meeting minutes are posted on the web site. There were no changes.
Correspondence – none.
Jim Tolson reported on the status of the Treasury through the end of June 2016.
Webmaster’s Report: – none.
Chaplain Sharon Lloyd fell and hurt her knee. A sympathy card is going to be sent by Chaplain Walt Fleak.
Galin reported George Petershagen is doing well. May be at the August meeting.
Membership Report/Introductions: – none.
July 30 – (Saturday) Cod Base Visit and Picnic with Cod, Cincy, Toledo and Requin bases and Piper reunion.
August 6 – (Saturday) Base Meeting, Worthington American Legion Post 239.
August 15-20 – USSVI National Convention, Reno, NV
Sept. 10 – (Saturday) Picnic
October 1 – (Saturday) Base Meeting, Worthington American Legion Post 239
Columbus Base Submarine Museum
Looking at other submarine museums that might want the items.
Jim Tolson visited Razorback and talked to Jim Gates about museum items. There are display museum items (plaques, pictures, hardware) and research museum items (files, books) and not everyone wants both.
Cod base is trying to reach consensus on what they want to do. Tim Barker to discuss with them during the July 30 picnic if possible.
Mike Thurston discussed an Eagle Scout project for his son. May be able to use some of the museum items.
Picnic in the Columbus Area
Date: Saturday September 10, 2016, noon
Location 2101 Noe Bixby Rd, Columbus OH 43232
Food – pot luck desserts plus chicken, brats, hot dogs, cold slaw, macaroni salad
Bring your own beverage.
For the good of the Order:
Rick Freeman discussed plaques for Freightliner and NAPA (provided paint). Getting names for Clutch. Frank Lloyd is ordering the ball caps. There are 8 trucking magazines with the story of painting the submarine float.
Permanent storage discussion for the boat: at Dave Creekmore’s for temporary storage between parades. Dave to look at long term storage on the east side of Columbus. All flags, benches, bell, battery, etc. at Bill Anderson’s. Jim Tolson has the Christmas lights, flags and harnesses for color guard.
July 30th Cod Base picnic in Cleveland. POD and Cod flyer were handed out. Head count of those attending is 17. Tim Barker offered transportation to anyone that wants a ride to Cleveland.
The July 4th parades in Upper Arlington and Plain City both went well this year.
USSVI National Election was discussed and shipmates were encouraged to vote by August 10.
Eric Johnson brought a book he had written. It was donated to 50/50 and signed by him.
41 for Freedom memorial being discussed by James Williams may work with Mike Thurston’s son as an Eagle Scout project.
50/50 drawing. Pictures on the web site show the winners.

Officer Meeting to be held. Watch for announcement.
