It's with a truly heavy heart that I inform you of the passing of our shipmate and World War II Submarine Veteran Dick Estell, who embarked on Eternal Patrol Thursday 25 February 2010. Richard Edward Estell, 86, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away February 25, 2010 at Friendship Village of Dublin. A hard working American with love for his country and family. A veteran of the U.S. Navy submarine service WW II. He attended O.S.U., Penn State, and graduated from Franklin University. Retired Vice President of Manufacturing, Big Drum Inc. A member of Luther B. Turner Masonic Lodge #732, Aladdin Shrine, Director Emeritus Reception Unit, Past Circus Director, Royal Order of Jesters, Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, Charity Newsies, Northwest United Methodist, WWII Sub Vets Holland Club. He was born April 25, 1923 to the late Samuel E. and Mattie Lou Estell. He is preceded in death his brother’s Samuel E. and Daniel W. Estell. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Luana A. Estell, son Michael R. Estell (Lynn) of Wisconsin, and son William E. Estell (Carol) of Columbus. Grandchildren Bryan (Larissa), Stephanie (Chuck) Rice, Andrea (Blake) Etheridge, Erin, and Eric. Great Grandchildren Brennan, Devin, and Megan. Visitation will be March 13, 2010 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm at the Northwest United Methodist Church 5200 Riverside Drive, Columbus 43221. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions in Dick’s name either to Aladdin Shrine Endowment Fund, 5380 Stelzer Road, Columbus, Ohio 43219, Home Reach Hospice, or Northwest United Methodist Church. |
