USS S36 SS-141
Wartime Loss
On Tuesday 20 January, 1942 the USS S36 SS-141 was lost when she ran aground on Karang Takabakang (also known as Taka Bakang Reef) in the Makassar Strait, west of Southern Celebes on January 20, 1942. No men were lost in the grounding of S-36. However, one man who had been left behind in the Philippines was captured by the Japanese and subsequently died while in POW camp.
