Lee Griffith Mather departs on Eternal Patrol

Lee Mather It's with a truly heavy heart that I inform you that our shipmate Lee Mather departed on Eternal Patrol. Lee Griffith Mather, age 85 of Columbus, passed away on November 30, 2018.

He was born on August 19, 1933 to the late Lee E. and Hettie L. (Griffith) Mather in Columbus, OH. Lee was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, retired from AT&T, was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, avid snow skier and instructor at Clearfork Ski Resort.

Lee is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Dorothy (Curry) Mather, children Gwen (Jim) Gallagher and Greg (Carrie Glaeden) Mather, grandchildren Elise Gallagher, Doug (Krystal) Gallagher, Brandon Mather and Brogan Mather, great grandchildren Harper, Caroline, Joy and Henry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of your choice. Per Lee's request, no service will be held. Lee qualified in 1954 aboard USS Crevalle SS-291, and also served aboard USS Sea Robin SS-407. He joined USSVI in 2007, was a Life Member of USSVI National and Columbus Base, and was inducted into the Holland Club in 2011.
Per Lee's wishes, there will not be a memorial service... but he will certainly be remembered and memorialized at the Columbus Base Tolling Ceremonies.
Columbus Base will donate $100.00 to the USSVI Scholarship Fund in Lee's memory.
