Larry D. Reese departs on Eternal Patrol

Preece thumbIt is with a heavy heart that I inform you of the passing of our former Columbus Base shipmate Larry Reese. Larry joined USSVI and Columbus Base in March 2013, and stayed with us until the end of 2017 when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and moved to Florida.

Larry qualified in 1971 aboard USS George Washington Carver SSBN-656. He left the Navy in 1974 as MM3 (SS). According to his obituary, a memorial service will be held in the future. As soon as we know a date/time/location, we'll pass the word.

May 16, 1951 – September 26, 2019

Larry D. Reese, 68, of Lake Placid, Florida went home to be with his Lord on Thursday morning, September 26, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his family after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Larry was born on May 16, 1951 in Columbus, Ohio to parents Marilyn (Blosser) and Ivan Reese. Larry served his country with honors in both the US Navy and the US Army reserve. Larry then served the City of Columbus, Ohio as a police officer, homicide and cold case detective. After retiring, Larry moved to Lake Placid in 2017. Larry was a member of the Heartland Christian Church in Sebring. Larry enjoyed being out on the water in his boat, a good round of golf, camping, traveling, and loved to cook for his family and friends any time they could get together. Larry is survived by his mother; Marilyn Reese, loving wife of 43 years; Marita, daughters; Dyann (Phillips), Maryjo (Ryther), and Stephanie (Burlingame), brothers; Steve and Greg and twelve grandchildren. In keeping with Larry’s wishes a memorial service will be planned in Columbus Ohio at a future date.



Larry will be remembered at the Columbus Base Tolling Ceremonies.
