It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that our Columbus Base shipmate Russell L. "Russ" Shaeffer departed on Eternal Patrol on Sunday August 16, 2020.
It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that our Columbus Base shipmate Charles E. "Chuck" Martin departed on Eternal Patrol on Monday July 6th.
It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that our Columbus Base shipmate and friend Jim Tolson departed on Eternal Patrol this morning.
Jim joined the United States Navy in 1967. He qualified in 1971 aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt SSBN-600, and also served aboard the submarine tender USS Sperry AS-12. Jim spent his Naval career as an Electronics Technician, advancing to the rating of ET1(SS) before being discharged in 1976.
It is with a heavy heart that I inform you of the passing of our former Columbus Base shipmate Larry Reese. Larry joined USSVI and Columbus Base in March 2013, and stayed with us until the end of 2017 when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and moved to Florida.
I'm sad and surprised to inform you of the passing of our Columbus Base shipmate Sam Templeton. Sad, because we've lost another shipmate. Surprised, because Sam passed on 23 January 2018 and we weren't aware!
It is with a heavy heart that I inform you of the passing of our Columbus Base shipmate Bill Wright. Bill qualified in 1969 aboard USS Henry Clay SSBN-625. He joined USSVI National and Columbus Base in 2017, and was to be inducted into the Holland Club this year at the December ceremony.
It is with a heavy heart that I inform you of the passing of our Columbus Base shipmate Gary Pelini on 4 May 2019. Gary qualified in 1967 aboard USS Entemedor SS-340, and also served aboard USS Dolphin SS-555. He was a Life Member of USSVI National and Columbus Base, and was inducted into the Holland Club in 2017.
